SASKATCHEWAN VOYAGEURS

Churchill River; August 1999

Introduction

The participants were the Linden family: Alison (Warren’s sister), husband Ken and their children Albert 13, Katrina 11, Jeffrey 9, and Christopher 7, all from Irvine, California; Warren from Saskatoon, and Peter from Fairfax, Virginia.  Warren filled the role of guide.  Peter had made a few trips before, and the California crew were all novices although experienced back packers.

The trip location is about two-thirds the way up Saskatchewan, just about where the highway system comes to an end. The Churchill river runs easterly across the province, in a series of lakes and rapids eventually to its mouth in Hudson's Bay.

Day 0; August 19.

Warren spent the afternoon assembling the trailer, canoes (Brent’s, Chris’ and his own), equipment and food.  Joyce and Alison also shopped for food in Prince Albert.  Warren, Sandy and Keiran arrived at Neis Beach, Emma Lake at about 11 pm, to find most people already asleep.  The Pathfinder was quickly unloaded and everyone fell into bed.
