Murray Rapids

After Corner there is some fast water, and the Ledge in to Barker Lake, which everyone ran OK, but we still spent time bailing before paddling across Barker Lake.

Everyone bounced down Murray One easily, just big rollers and haystacks.  As always, Warren prepared to take the next rapid (Murray Two and Three) as two separate rapids, since time for bailing is good.  Warren and Peter dutifully pulled into the big eddy and turned to watch the others and took photos.

Jason and Craig zoomed by, still pretty dry.

Brent and Russ discovered themselves way too full of water to complete the rapid in one swell foop (Brent’s usual route), so worked hard to get into the eddy and bail.

They made it, so Warren and Peter pulled out and followed Jason and Craig to the bottom.  Once dry, Brent and Russ ran the last section cleanly.

A short paddle across Devil Lake was made more enjoyable by the tailwind, and meeting one of  Ric Dreiger’s group,  up for a solo canoe certification course, halfway across.

And so to the Devil Lake landing, shuttle the CRCO canoe to Missinipe, and return with the second car. Drive to La Ronge and Mohawk, then to Emma Lake, dropping off Warren and Peter and, after a quick beer, the rest of the team took off for Saskatoon. We had crammed a lot into one weekend.
